Kovalam History
In the history of Kovalam, the Maharajah of Travancore had played a crucial role. The King was bowled over by the natural beauty of the place and used to take shelter during his leisure hours. The place became popular when the European guests of the King came to know about his infatuation with Kovalam. What followed after that was, towards the third decade of twentieth century , the European visitors were caged by its charm.
The popularity of Kovalam rose in the 1970 when it was frequented by the hippies. It was the turn of the Hippie Community to be captivated by the serene beauty of the place which resulted in the rising number of the hippies in the beach paradise.
In the recent years, Kerala has strongly emerged as a popular international tourist hub and Kovalam must be given its due credit for being one of the major magnetic pull.
